| | | | | | The "GMT-Master" developed by Rolex at the request of a very special customer. The air carrier Oan American Airlines (Pan Am) was in search of a watch that could simultaneously keep the time of two different zones.
In response Rolex created the GMT master, a watch with an independent second hand that, unlike normal hands, completed a turn of its axis every 24 hours with the 24-hour dial positioned on the bezel. This made it possible to read the time of the current location with the regular hand as well as the time at home with the independently adjustable, 24-hour hand. The model became a huge success and since then the GMT Master has become integral part of the Rolex range. The watch has constantly been upgraded and modernized without changing the original character of the watch and an old GMT is still very similar to the current models. At the Baselworld trade fair in 2007, a new, steel version of the GMT was unveiled with a new, larger body a new bezel with huge digits and a revised mechanism.
